Short Details About Lord Ganesha (Vinayagar) !!

Lord Ganesha is the first son of God Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. He is the lord of beginnings. He is the God of education, knowledge and success. He is the elephant headed god.

Once there was a competition between Ganesha and his brother Muruga as to see who could go around the world faster and hence win the fruit of knowledge. Muruga went off on a journey on his peacock vahana to come around the world, while Ganesha simply went around his parents. When asked why he did so, he answered that his parents Shiva and Parvati constituted his world and won the competition and was given the fruit of knowledge. And so He is considered as the God of Knowledge.

His Vehicle is Rat.
